Familiarity with the language used in the medical interpreter profession is important for interpreters when communicating with healthcare providers. Understanding medical terminology and the general language used in the medical setting is important to ensuring effective communication and successful outcomes in a medical encounter.
In this module, we will review the terminology of the interpreter profession itself. We then focus on the different medical specialties, hospital departments, medical equipment, and common medical diagnostic testing. Upon completion of this module, Interpreters should be able to confidently navigate through the hospital setting with knowledge of the day to day language of the healthcare environment.
