Interpreting in Workers' Compensation Cases

Competent interpretation services are crucial in workers’ compensation.  Lack of language access further inhibits the LEP claimant’s ability to understand proceedings that are essential to their health and livelihood.  In this module, interpreters will learn about the workers’ compensation process and the terminology that relates to the proceedings.  We will also look at common workplace accidents and some  medical terminology common in orthopedic injuries.  We will discuss the interpreter’s role, what types of settings the interpreter may be assigned to, and review the ethical standards from both the medical and legal arenas that interpreters are required to follow.
