Interpreting Encounters in Geriatrics
Interpreting Encounters in Geriatrics

Geriatric case managers help seniors and their families negotiate senior care plans. Over 3.3 million seniors in America are not fluent in English.  This combined with commonly known effects of aging, cognitive skills, and, in some cases, a lack of financial stability, creates a strong demand for language services to support  the elderly community.  In this module we will discuss the areas of case management in geriatric care and the settings in which interpreters may find themselves working.  We will also examine some of the challenges interpreters may face when interpreting for elderly individuals.  Students will also learn common terminology in geriatric care.
